SUMMARY:An Evening with Leo Kottke
DESCRIPTION:The Grammy-nominated acoustic guitarist will be returning to the Reilly for an evening of great music! Known for his fingerpicking style that draws on blues\, jazz\, and folk music\, and for syncopated\, polyphonic melodies; Kottke is regarded widely as a master of his instrument. Kottke’s 1971 major-label debut\, “Mudlark\,” positioned him somewhat uneasily in the singer/songwriter vein\, despite his own wishes to remain an instrumental performer. Kottke flourished during his tenure on Capitol\, as records like 1972’s “Greenhouse” and 1973’s live “My Feet Are Smiling” and “Ice Water” found him branching out with guest musicians and honoring his technique.

SUMMARY:Molly Hatchet
DESCRIPTION:In the early 1970s\, a new form of music was emerging in the South. A mixture of blues\, country\, gospel and the English invasion of rock and roll that later was to be coined the phrase “Southern Rock.” The music was filled with style and emotion and with bands in the forefront such as the Allman Brothers\, Lynyrd Skynyrd and a band from Jacksonville\, Florida called MOLLY HATCHET. \nTheir self-titled debut album quickly went platinum\, and the follow-up\, “Flirtin’ with Disaster\,” was even more successful\, selling over two million copies and cementing the band’s legendary status. Hit songs include: “Flirtin’ with Disaster\,” “Dreams I’ll Never See\,” “Whiskey Man\,” and “Gator Country.”\nSo as we enter the next 25 years of music Molly Hatchet supports tradition that keeps developing the common bond and unity that keeps this style of music alive. Rest assured Molly Hatchet is a band that after 39 years is always workin’ hard\, playin’ tough\, livin’ fast\, and still Flirtin’ with Disaster!!

SUMMARY:1 Million Cups Ocala
DESCRIPTION:1 Million Cups is based on the idea that entrepreneurs network and discover solutions over a million cups of coffee. The program is a free\, weekly gathering that helps to build startup communities on a grassroots level.\n1 Million Cups is just over 5 years old and is in over 140 communities across the U.S.\nEveryone in the community is invited to join us each Wednesday from 9:30 am to 10:30 a.m. at the CEP’s Power Plant Business Incubator – 2nd Floor\, located at 405 SE Osceola Ave. Ocala.\nThe program’s model is consistent in each city: Every Wednesday morning\, two early-stage startups present their companies to an audience of mentors\, advisors\, and other entrepreneurs. Each founder presents for six minutes\, followed by a 20-minute question-and-answer session with the audience.\nThe central question asked each week is\, “What can we\, as a community\, do to help you get this idea off the ground?”\nIf you know of someone with a new business idea they’ve been working-on launching or which is less than 3 years old (in any industry!)\, encourage them to apply to present via http://www.1millioncups.com/ocala We also ask that presenters be unique businesses which they themselves have created and not franchises.

SUMMARY:Candlelight Vigil for the end of Human Trafficking at Ocala City Hall Steps
DESCRIPTION:In honor of Human Trafficking Awareness Month\, MCA in partnership with Grace Episcopal Church and Highlands Baptist Church will be hosting a special art installation during the January First Friday Art Walk. On the evening of January 3\, we will fill cracks between the bricks of the Downtown Square with bright red sand to create a visual reminder of the millions of people around the world who have fallen through the cracks of our society and become trapped and hidden in slavery. Project developer\, experimental New York City-based artist Molly Gochman has said about the project\, “I realized that my art could be a tool to help raise awareness of this horrible crime (human trafficking) and the vulnerabilities that lead to exploitation. I’ve always thought that sidewalks cracks were beautiful — they hold a tension between nature and society. Metaphorically here\, they symbolize people who are overlooked by society — those who fall through the cracks and are often subject to exploitation.” \nThe Red Sand Project is a participatory artwork created by Molly Gochman that uses sidewalk interventions and earthwork installations to create opportunities for people to question\, connect and take action against vulnerabilities that can lead to human trafficking and exploitation. The International Labour Organization estimates that there are 40.3 million victims of human trafficking globally; 81% of them are trapped in forced labor\, 25% of them are children\, and 75% are women and girls. The grains represent the men\, women\, and children enslaved today around the world – and right here in Ocala. #RedSandProject \nSchedule of events for the month of January:\n*Jan 3 (6-8pm) – Red Sand Project Participatory Art Installation at Ocala Downtown Square\n*Jan 7 (6pm) – Candlelight Vigil for the end of Human Trafficking at Ocala City Hall Steps\n*Jan 25 (10am) – Freedom Walk to support Created Gainesville’s\nNorth Florida Survivor Shelter at Sholom Park\n*Jan 28 (11:30am) – Lunch & Learn more about Human Trafficking at Brick City Center for the Arts\n*Jan 30 (1pm) – Human Trafficking Awareness in Marion County at Saint Leo University\, Ocala Education Center \nTO REPORT SUSPECTED HUMAN TRAFFICKING:\nCall: 888-373-7888 / Text: 233733 \nFor more information about this event\, please contact MCA at 352-369-1500.\nTO REPORT SUSPECTED HUMAN TRAFFICKING:\nCall: 888-373-7888 / Text: 233733 \nFor more information about this event\, please contact MCA at 352-369-1500.

SUMMARY:The Bronx Wanderers
DESCRIPTION:Tap into the infectious energy of the music that skyrocketed classics like “American Graffiti”\, “Happy Days” and “A Bronx Tale” to immediate success. Weave that nostalgic adrenalin into a soundtrack of the greatest hits of rock n’ roll replicated in a way that only a master record producer can achieve. Add in some genuine pros from the era and then unleash a youthful show-stopping charisma of the sons’ modern day indie band musicians. Finish off this heart-pumping mix with the lovingly engaging does of pure Italian “famiglia” and you might come close to capturing the seemingly “magical” appeal of The Bronx Wanderers!
