DESCRIPTION:Mark Emery grew up in Ocala and spent much of his youth in the woods often at the Drake ranch. He worked at Silver Springs wrestling alligators and milking rattlesnakes at the Ross Allen’s Reptile Institute. Later he went to work for Jordan Klein Film and Video. Jordan Klein Sr. built the first underwater cinema cameras and made technical advancements with Jacques Cousteau to make modern SCUBA possible. Mark worked on productions with Academy- award winner Jordan Klein\, Sr. and his son for many years. Mark began producing\, directing and shooting television shows\, Natural History films and commercials about fish and wildlife for the BBC\, National Geographic Television\, The Smithsonian Channel\, PBS Nature and The Discovery Channel. He has won two Emmys for Cinematography\, a Chris Award\, Wildlife Communicator of the Year Award and The Silver Springs International Film Festival “Audience Choice Award.”

This year’s ride will start at the Land Bridge Trailhead. Join us for a fun ride through the beautiful trails of the Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenways.\nThis year’s Santos Fall Epic is presented by Greenway Bicycles\, Artletic Apparel and Florida Greenways & Trails Foundation. All profits from this ride are donated to LOCAL Marion County charities including Pay It Forward Outreach.\nThe Santos Fall Epic is not a race\, but a ride through the scenic Santos Trail system. We will have SAG stops along the route with drinks and snacks. But\, as with any ride\, please be prepared with hydration\, nutrition\, and bicycle repair supplies.\nYou are welcome to ride any distance other than the designated route (approx 50 miles off-road and 32 miles paved trail). SUMMARY:McIntosh 1890’s Festival
DESCRIPTION:All day free musical entertainment from country to bluegrass\, over 280 arts\, crafts\, plants and antique vendors. Food booths. Free admission.\nThe Friends of McIntosh\, Inc. is a benevolent\, non-profit organization chartered on September 26\, 1973. Its primary purpose is to preserve and enhance the natural and historic beauty of McIntosh\, and to promote and sponsor cultural and recreational activities while encouraging friendship\, community spirit and understanding among people of all ages in McIntosh. \nThe origin of the festival was to raise money in order to obtain\, move\, and restore the old McIntosh train depot which was built prior to 1890\, It had to be removed from the existing Seaboard Coastline’s right-of-way. Activities held by the Friends to begin accruing the money to do such a task were holding bake sales\, dinners and other events\, but it was clear that more money would be needed\, Thus a festival was born!\nThe first festival was held on Oct. 19\, 1974 as a fund raiser and originally called the McIntosh Gay Nineties Festival. It had an attendance of approximately 4\,000 people. It has since grown and the Festival now hosts over 250 vendors and an estimated 35\,000 visitors annually.\nEach year the 1890’s Festival raises money to fund additional projects in the community. The most noteworthy of these is the creation of an a scholarship fund to assist local and area young people pursue their scholastic careers. Others have included a front-porch addition to the Community Center; the installation of playground equipment for the children; the Victorian-style lamp posts in the main park in the center of town\, Van Ness Park; the clock in the Mini-Park; and the purchase of the old Carriage House adjacent to the depot. The Friends of McIntosh also support various organizations through donations\, to organizations such as the American Heart Association\, the local Emergency Assistance Fund\, the Salvation Army and the Cub\, Boy and Girl Scouts.

SUMMARY:Ocala Out of the Darkness Community Walk
DESCRIPTION:When you walk in the Out of the Darkness Walks\, you join the effort with hundreds of thousands of people to raise awareness and funds that allow the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to invest in new research\, create educational programs\, advocate for public policy\, and support survivors of suicide loss. Thanks to Walkers and Donors like you\, AFSP has been able to set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20% by 2025. \nPets are not allowed at this event. Service animals are permitted. \nOnline registration closes at noon (local time) the Friday before the walk. However\, anyone who would like to participate can register in person at the walk from the time check-in begins until the walk starts. Registration is free and open to the public.
