SUMMARY:Dog Days of Summer Art Show
DESCRIPTION:Come join us this Saturday at Gallery B for a one day sale! Mimosas and art!!! Gallery B has a collective of 6 Artists representing oil\, watercolor\, acrylic and photography 2d artwork.\nA portion of the proceeds from all sales will be donated to Laurie Kopec’s daughter Rachel\, for her recovery: \nDuring her third trimester\, Rachel Barkley experienced a bit of wobble and weakness in her right leg. For three years prior she had terrible neck/shoulder pain\, During labor her pain returned full force. Her right leg was also weak and didn’t seem to be getting better. But again family and doctors chalked this up to pregnancy side effects. \nIt wasn’t until Tuesday morning June 11\, 2019 Rachel went to the ER because she had lost 90% of the movement and strength in her right leg. She was unable to move her leg although there has never been any pain or numbness and full feeling remained. Due to her neck and shoulder pain and a prior doctor’s recommendation we requested an upper spine MRI just to get at the cause of her pain. The results the next day were unexpected. A “lesion” was revealed in her upper spinal cord continuing down to the middle of her back. .\nThe neurosurgeon returned with a clearer picture of the road ahead. The tumor is unusually large\, especially for a female her age. He thinks the tumor is either an ependymona or an astrocytomas. If it’s an ependymona then the extraction is relatively easier. If it’s an astrocytoma\, they would take out less since that type tends to bond with the spinal cord tissue. After surgery there is a long road of physical therapy\, potential chemotherapy and/or radiation treatment. After a couple of months and surgeries on August 2nd\, 2019 she had her first kick in her right leg\, everyday is a step forward to recovery. For more about this amazing recovery and to donate visit http://bit.ly/2KCjlo6

SUMMARY:Prenatal Alcohol Exposure: Brain Development and Learning
DESCRIPTION:Each year in the U.S. between 35\,000 and 40\,000 babies are born with a fetal alcohol-related disorder. Most individuals with FASD are never diagnosed. Problems related to prenatal alcohol exposure can include language\, motor and cognitive delays which can include facial abnormalities\, heart defects\, and vision and hearing problems.\nThe quality of life for individuals with FASD and their families can be drastically improved when appropriate interventions\, services and support are initiated at a young age. Some problems associated with FASD tend to intensify as children become adults and interventions become more challenging to implement. The good news is that FASD is 100% preventable. \nPlease join us to explore prevention\, early intervention and long term treatment interventions for individuals affected by FASD. Participants will be able to distinguish between FASD and FAS; participants will be able to identify the three characteristics of FAS; participants will identify three cognitive deficits that are typical for a child with prenatal alcohol exposure with guest speaker: Tamra Cajo. \nTamra Cajo is a bilingual licensed clinical social worker with over 15 years of experience working with children with serious emotional and behavioral disorders.
