This ancient place is home to a great many amazing species of animals that are regularly seen as we journey down this undeveloped river system. We will look for the West Indian manatees\, troops of the rhesus macaque monkeys\, river otters\, American alligators\, eight species of turtles\, numerous other reptiles\, along with a number of Florida’s 525 known species of birds regularly seen along the waterway. \nAdditionally\, we will pass historic structures that replicated Ocala’s nearly 200 year old Fort King\, a cracker village that supported that fort\, and the Seminole trade village that was once here. You’re invited to join volunteers and park staff as we walk a pack of well-behaved dogs through the park’s gardens and trails. This program gives the animals exercise and the chance to socialize with other dogs and other people. All of the dogs are available for long-term adoption but you can also “adopt” a dog for the morning and take it for a walk with the group. For just a small investment of time\, you can make a huge difference in the life of a shelter dog. Hikers and walkers are welcome to join the group\, even if they don’t want to hold a leash. Please note: only visitors 16 years and older may walk a shelter dog. \nHeld the fourth Sunday of the month. SUMMARY:Monday Morning Workshop with Kay Deuben
DESCRIPTION:Monday Morning Mini Workshops in pastels with renowned artist\, Kay Deuben. Monday\, August 19 AND Monday\, August 26 from 9am to noon.  The workshops will take place at Brick City Center for the Arts\, Ocala\, Florida and are open to artists of all levels. \nEach session will include a still life set up\, followed by a demo of a different pastel method by Kay Deuben. Participants may work from a photo of their own if they wish. Under painting\, surface prep\, to blend or not to blend are some subjects that will be covered. \nThere’s no need to sign up for the whole series. Simply come when you wish. Class will be from 9:00 to noon\, but arrive a little early to set up. Advance registration not required. Pay at the door\, $25 per session. Beginners welcome. Some supplies will be available for beginners but all should bring a set of pastels\, masking tape and paper as well as a support such as gator board.  Please provide your own easel and table cover. \nAbout the Artist: Kay Deuben recently coordinated the Equine Benefit Show for Mill Creek Farm at Mossman Hall in Melrose where she has taught pastel workshops as well as in St. Augustine at the Hubley Gallery. Studying recently in workshops by Dawn Emerson\, Stan Sperlak\, Nancy King Mertz\, Lyn Asselta\, Richard Lundgren\, Lorenzo Chavez and Desmond O”Hagan\, Kay will include techniques learned from each during the sessions.\nKay earned a degree from University of Kansas and has studied art at John Herron School of Art in Indianapolis as well as the listed workshops.  She recently attended the International Association of Pastel Societies convention in Albuquerque\, NM. She is a member of First Coast Pastel Society\, Pastel Society of Central Florida and Pastel Society of North Carolina.  Her commissioned work is in private collections through out the US.

Mr. Wormwood is only focused on his job as a used-car salesman\, while Mrs. Wormwood cares for nothing but her dance lessons with Rudolpho (Miguel Gonzalez-Floyd). \nAt school\, Matilda encounters The Trunchbull (Patrick Stanley)\, the horrible headmistress who hates children and lives to dream up terrible punishments. The little kids – Bruce (Logan Main)\, Lavender (Sadie Sunshine Garrett)\, Eric (Benjamin Keefe)\, Nigel (Cordel Miner)\, Hortensia (Alessandra Mastroserio)\, Tommy (Aubrey Bush)\, Alice (McKenzie Gradler)\, and Amanda (Aislynn Buehre) – all live in fear of Miss Trunchbull’s wrath.  \nSo do the big kids (Victor Benitez III\, Daniel Boodoo\, Christian Gonzalez\, Robert Gradler\, Ciara Kelley\, Kelly Myers\, McKenzie Todd\, Emma Toler). And most of the others in Matilda’s world (Maggie Carbonell\, Chelsea Dellinger\, Ashlynn Gibbs\, Joshua Plante\, Juliette Sanz\, Will Torres) don’t do much to counteract the ill-treatment she gets at school and at home. \nHowever\, Matilda’s teacher\, sweet Miss Honey (Shannon Guinn)\, loves her for being a bright\, brave young dreamer. So does the librarian\, Mrs. Phelps (Hortensia Owens)\, who marvels at Matilda’s intelligence and loves her dramatic stories.  \nThe kindness of just a few people\, plus Matilda’s own vivid imagination – and the knowledge that “Sometimes you have to be a little bit naughty” – empowers her to find the courage to change her destiny.
