SUMMARY:First Five Years Gala
DESCRIPTION:The Early Learning Coalition of Orange County invites you to our Annual First Five Years Gala at EPCOT’s World ShowPlace Pavilion. This upcoming gala will be special as we embark upon 20 years of dedicated service to the Orange County community and celebrate as the first class of VPK students graduate from high school! \nThe gala is a celebration of the services and programs that the Coalition provides to help Orange County’s children enter kindergarten “ready to learn.” The event will include live music performances\, a fine-dining experience and a silent auction. \nAbout the Early Learning Coalition of Orange County \nThe Coalition helps ensure that children ages birth to five are receiving the well-rounded experiences they need to achieve future success. We do this by working to impact all aspects of the early care environment: assuring quality standards for childcare centers\, helping teachers achieve their national certification\, and working with parents to ensure a healthy and positive home life. \nFor every $1 raised at the event\, the Coalition will receive $15.67 in state and federal funding. Tickets can be purchased at http://elcoforangecounty.org/first-five-years-gala/.

SUMMARY:Public Meeting: NE Eighth Avenue Road Diet Phase II
DESCRIPTION:In preparation for the NE Eighth Avenue Road Diet Project Phase II\, the City of Ocala will host a public meeting Thursday\, May 23 at 6 p.m. at the Discovery Center\, 701 NE Sanchez Ave. The goal of this public meeting is to collect input from residents and business owners for design elements within the second phase of this project. \nThis public meeting will present concepts related to the project including buffered bicycle lanes and wider sidewalks to better accommodate bicyclists and pedestrians; raised medians and landscaping to enhance the corridor; and roundabouts at NE Second Street\, NE Third Street\, NE Sixth Street and NE Ninth Street to slow traffic and facilitate safer crossings. \nIn early 2018\, the City of Ocala held multiple public meetings to discuss the first phase of this project. Comments received from those meetings prompted the City Engineer’s Office to redesign certain elements of the project. The City’s consultant\, Kimley-Horn\, will also be presenting project designs to the community at this meeting to gain additional input and feedback. \nFor more information\, please contact the City Engineer’s Office at 352-351-6708.

SUMMARY:Live Music Friday: Legacy
DESCRIPTION:Live Music Friday presents: Legacy\, live in the taproom\, Friday\, 5/24/19\, 7p-11p.\nWeaving a funky trip through a blend of roots & soulful grooves\, gypsy jazz-funk\, stirred together with a sprinkle of funberry jam.\nSean Maloney lost his leg to cancer at age 12. He found the guitar and a sense of humor and love of music. Now\, living in Orlando\, FL. he cleverly goes by the name “Legacy” and offers up a melodic mix of grooves… Legacy’s brand of music cannot be classified solely\, but as organic music that will make you tap both of your feet. Jam-based\, reggae overtones with hints of jazz horns and scat work\, over beat boxes looped to perfection. Shakin’ like you were on Shakedown Street itself.

SUMMARY:Cracker Village Tour- Silver River Museum
DESCRIPTION:Come and discover what life was like at the turn of the century in the Florida “piney woods.” The cracker homestead is a replica of a 19th century pioneer settlement. This collection of buildings represents a small “Cracker” settlement dating to the 1890s. A typical homestead of the time would have included a cabin and outbuildings such as a barn\, pantry\, smokehouse\, and outhouse. Schoolhouses\, churches\, and blacksmith shops would have been found in settlements that homesteaders visited to attend social gatherings and barter for supplies. During the tour\, these buildings will be open for viewing and on most tours the blacksmith’s forge will be fired up. Meet at the Cracker Village across from the Silver River museum. \nAdditional Information: \nEnter the park through the camping & museum entrance\, 1425 NE 58th Avenue\, (also known as State Road 35 or Baseline Rd.) to access the Silver River Museum. For information on the tour\, please call 352-236-7148.

SUMMARY:John and Jen: A Musical
DESCRIPTION:A truly original musical that honors brothers and sisters\, as well as parents and children\, set against the background of a changing America between 1950 and 1990\, John & Jen is a gem of a show\, brimming with intelligence\, wit and beautiful melodies. \nThis is the story of Jen and her relationships with the two Johns of her life: her younger brother\, who was killed in Vietnam\, and his namesake\, the son who is trying to find his way in a confusing world. Jen and her younger brother\, John\, are growing up in the ever-changing world of mid-century America. As the country becomes divided over the war in Vietnam\, so does the family\, and battle lines are drawn between the once-close siblings. When John is killed in Vietnam\, Jen is left to reconcile her memory of their fractured relationship along with her son and brother’s namesake. \nWith a cast of only two people\, John & Jen is a tour-de-force for two actors\, taking them from childhood\, through adolescence\, and beyond. John & Jen is a musical about connections\, commitments and the healing of the human heart. \nWritten by Andrew Lippa\nDirected by Sebastian Lombardo
