DESCRIPTION:I believe we are the first business in Dunnellon to install solar panels (120 of them!) on the roof of one of our buildings. We hope to set a great example and encourage others to go solar. SO\, to get everyone fired up and knowledgeable about it\, we are hosting a day long celebration on Earth Day 2019 and we’d like to invite area businesses\, residents and interested people to attend. Representatives from a couple solar companies will be on hand to speak about climate change\, the current technology\, rebates for business owners\, tax credits for both residents & businesses and answer questions. We hope to have lenders who specialize in solar on hand as well as electric car reps\, sierra & audubon club\, a green builder and more. To add to the learning\, a little fun like food and live music\, and possibly our new EV charging station will be installed and usable. DESCRIPTION:Kids Central Inc. is the lead\, non-profit child welfare organization serving Florida’s Circuit 5 counties (Marion\, Lake\, Hernando\, Citrus\, and Sumter.) Our mission is to protect children\, support families\, and engage communities. We accomplish this through a variety of programs and services such as the management of foster care and adoption\, prevention of child abuse in all its forms\, providing support for families in crisis\, and creating “normalcy\,” for youth who have experienced trauma. To enhance and continue these necessary programs we raise funds through events and individual donors. Our signature event\, Casino Royale\, assists us in raising money that goes directly to serving the youth and families in our care. The evening will include casino-themed games\, poker tournament\, food and beverages\, entertainment\, and opportunity to support the Kids Central Inc. mission.

DESCRIPTION:Beginning Saturday\, Apr 6 Discovery Center will host Kings\, Queens & Castles\, a children’s chess exhibit co-created by The World Chess Hall of Fame and The Magic House\, St. Louis Children’s Museum. This innovative\, nationally traveling exhibit brings the game of chess to life and provides an engaging introduction to individual chess pieces and game strategy. Kings\, Queens & Castles will be on display Saturday April 6 through Saturday\, June 22 at the Discovery Center\, 701 NE Sanchez Ave. \nDesigned for children ages 3-11\, Kings Queens & Castles features an array of interactive elements. Visitors can walk across a drawbridge into a medieval castle complete with turret slides and a giant chess board floor with life-size chess pieces. After your human chess game\, you can make a crown\, build your own castle walls. This family friendly exhibit provides a fun introduction to chess and life in the medieval age. \nA special grand opening event will be held Saturday\, April 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will feature face painting\, refreshments\, planetarium shows at 11:00am and 1:00pm\, face painting\, a live chess board demo at 11:30am\, special guest Dr. Ietef DJ Cavem Vita at 12:00pm\, and live “dragon” encounters at 12:30pm and 1:30pm. \nThe exhibit is open Tuesdays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. General admission to the Discovery Center is $6.50 per person or $22 for a family of four. StarLab Planetarium tickets can be purchased on Saturdays for an additional $3. \nYearly memberships are also available for individuals and families.
