SUMMARY:Empire Strikes Brass with The Greg Snider Quartet: Levitt AMP Ocala Music Series
DESCRIPTION:The 2019 Levitt AMP Ocala Music Series presents Empire Strikes Brass with opening act The Greg Sinder Quartet on Friday\, July 26th from 6 – 9 p.m. at Webb Field at the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Complex. \nThe performance is free. Please bring your chairs and blankets. Food is available from a select food truck as well as from the Summer BreakSpot program. Beer and wine will also be available for purchase. Visit local vendors and have fun at the Ocala Recreation and Parks recreation vehicle. \nEach concert in the series features a local non-profit organization working to create art accessibility in our community; tonight’s featured non-profit is the Marion Cultural Alliance. \nMore information is available at www.levittamp.org/ocala or contact Ocala Cultural Arts at 352-629-8447. \nHEADLINING ARTIST: EMPIRE STRIKES BRASS\nEmpire Strikes Brass (ESB) is a high energy Brass-Funk-Rock band hailing from the city of Asheville\, North Carolina. Formed on the streets of their hometown\, ESB is rooted in the New Orleans Brass Band tradition of second-line parades and deep moving grooves reminiscent of old school funk. Combining complex musical arrangements with thoughtful lyrical song structure\, ESB can stretch out and dig deep when they are feeling it or keep things tight and concise. The fat sound of the horns paired with one dirty rhythm section makes the music downright psychedelically nasty! Founded in 2012\, ESB intentionally stretches the boundaries of the stereotypical brass band paradigm\, fusing sounds from various genres and weaving them together with the common thread of Brass. The diversity of the music within their sets keep audiences guessing what is next to come. \nThe band released its debut album\, “Theme For A Celebration” in 2017 and it was tapped as one of the top 100 album releases in 2017 by WNCW 88.7 radio. Since their conception\, ESB has been a consistent fixture at various festivals throughout the east coast. They’ve had the pleasure of having Warren Haynes (Allman Bros. Band and Gov’t Mule) sit in with them at New Mountain Amphitheater in Asheville\, NC and the honor of headlining four years in a row celebrating the life of Dizzy Gillespie in his hometown of Cheraw\, SC\, for the South Carolina Jazz and Heritage Festival. ESB has co-billed with such artists as Dr. John & Lettuce. The horns have sat in on performances with Galactic\, The Big Something\, and many others. ESB horn players JP Furnas\, Paul Juhl and Alex Bradley are also featured on the live album compilation from world-renowned artists Beats Antique entitled “Creature Carnival” released in 2015. The band is known to regularly parade off stage into the audience leading a the crowd in a raucous procession around the venue before\, during or after their set. For information on Empire Strikes Brass\, please visit www.empirestrikesbrass.com. \nOPENING ARTIST: THE GREG SNIDER QUARTET\nGreg Snider is currently an adjunct professor at the College of Central Florida (CF) in Ocala\, Fl. He maintains a saxophone\, clarinet\, and jazz studio and directs the jazz band\, jazz combo and saxophone ensemble. Greg’s performance schedule is constantly growing. As a consistent doubler\, he works with school band programs as a woodwind technician\, performs reed books for musicals\, and presents the woodwinds to elementary schools across Marion County through the Ocala Symphony Orchestra Symphony for Schools program. Other consistent performance includes appearances with the Gainesville Orchestra and Ocala Symphony Orchestra as well as multiple jazz\, rock\, and show groups within the Gainesville and Ocala region. Greg is currently curating the brand new Ocala Jazz Project series at the Reilly Arts Center\, which boasts guests such as Juan Rollan\, Marty Liquori\, and Scott Wilson. Greg offers booking with jazz duos\, trios\, quartets\, big band\, saxophone quartet\, and classical chamber music as well as the Greg Snider Group. \nSHOW US HOW #MUSICMOVES YOU! \nDon’t forget to show us how #musicmoves you by dancing and you may receive a 2019 Levitt AMP Ocala t-shirt. Use the hashtag on Instagram and you could win $100 gift card from the Levitt Foundation. Also\, show your support by stopping by our tent and completing a brief survey to tell us what you thought of the series. \nTHANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS\nLevitt Foundation\, Marion Cultural Alliance\, City of Ocala Municipal Government\, 98.5 KTK\, TriEagle Sales\, Island Grove Wine Company\, The Mojo Grill & Catering\, Kona Ice Ocala\, David and Lisa Midgett Foundation\, Ocala/Marion County\, Florida\, Summer BreakSpot Program\, and Ocala Electric Utility. Production by Oniram Productions\, Inc.. \nThe Levitt AMP Ocala Music Series is supported in part by the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation\, a private foundation that empowers towns and cities across America to transform underused public spaces into thriving destinations through the power of free\, live music. SUMMARY:Cracker Village Tour- Silver River Museum
DESCRIPTION:Come and discover what life was like at the turn of the century in the Florida “piney woods.” The cracker homestead is a replica of a 19th century pioneer settlement. This collection of buildings represents a small “Cracker” settlement dating to the 1890s. A typical homestead of the time would have included a cabin and outbuildings such as a barn\, pantry\, smokehouse\, and outhouse. Schoolhouses\, churches\, and blacksmith shops would have been found in settlements that homesteaders visited to attend social gatherings and barter for supplies. During the tour\, these buildings will be open for viewing and on most tours the blacksmith’s forge will be fired up. Meet at the Cracker Village across from the Silver River museum. \nAdditional Information: \nEnter the park through the camping & museum entrance\, 1425 NE 58th Avenue\, (also known as State Road 35 or Baseline Rd.) to access the Silver River Museum. SUMMARY:The Bacon Brothers: The Shaky Ground Tour
DESCRIPTION:Most people would agree that there’s nothing stronger\, more durable and occasionally\, even more volatile\, than the bond between brothers. And when that bond includes the common goal of making music\, the results often offer reason for an audience to sit up and take notice. There have been any number of examples in music’s modern era — the Everly Brothers\, the Beach Boys\, the Kinks\, and Oasis to name but a few. Not that it’s easy or even agreeable\, but there is common cause\, and that’s generally enough to ensure there’s passion and purpose in its creation. \nJust ask the Bacon Brothers. Fiercely devoted to making music\, even from an early age (they cite such influences as the Rolling Stones\, the Beatles\, Motown\, Led Zeppelin\, Philly soul\, and James Taylor\, with mentions from Michael of Pete Seeger\, Jimmy Rogers\, Chet Atkins\, and the Jim Kweskin Jug Band\, and additional kudos to Michael from Kevin for his input)\, the two siblings share a singular body of work that’s found them spending more than 20 years of working the road and paying their dues\, resulting in nine albums – Forosoco (1997)\, Getting There (1999)\, Can’t Complain (2001)\, Live: The No Food Jokes Tour (2003)\, White Knuckles (2005)\, New Year’s Day (2009)\, Philadelphia Road (2011) 36 Cents (2014)\, and the eponymous\, The Bacon Brothers (2018) — spanning rock\, soul\, folk and Americana. Never content to be typecast\, they’re fiercely devoted to the cause of making music\, undeterred by fame\, fortune or the pitfalls that frequently obstruct the path to success. \nIt’s not that either brother lacks the means to steal the spotlight. Kevin Bacon is an award-winning actor with 80 films and dozens of television and stage credits to his name\, resulting in numerous Emmy and Screen Actors Guild nominations cited in his resume. Older brother Michael initially began making music in their native Philadelphia before moving to Nashville where his songwriting career blossomed by leaps and bounds. An Emmy-winning composer\, he most recently scored the documentary “That Way Madness Lies” currently on the festival circuit. Other recent works include the audiobook: “You Don’t Look Your Age…And Other Fairytales” and the HBO documentary “RX: Early Detection with Sandra Lee” which premiered at Sundance last year. \nStill\, while it’s clear that Michael and Kevin don’t view the band as simply a sideline\, their commitment is clear. Indeed\, the high points have been many. Kevin points to an opening slot for The Band at Carnegie Hall\, surveying the Texas landscape in the midst of a lightning storm\, rocking the Stone Pony on the Jersey Shore and Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa. For Michael\, it’s been all about touring in Germany and Japan\, and the fascination he feels performing for overseas audiences. \nSo while casual observers may be awed by their Hollywood credentials\, critics have been quick to note that the brothers – Michael on vocals\, guitar and cello and Kevin on vocals\, guitar and percussion — along with the band that’s been with them since the beginning — Paul Guzzone (bass\, backing vocals)\, Joe Mennonna (keyboards\, accordion)\, Tim Quick (lead guitar\, mandolin and backing vocals) and Frank Vilardi (drums) — eschew any hint of glitz and glamour in favor of an ethic gleaned from the hard lessons come as a result of determination and drive.\nTickets on sale April 15 for Reilly Members and April 19 at 10:00 AM for the general public!

SUMMARY:The Bacon Brothers: The Shaky Ground Tour
DESCRIPTION:Long before Kevin Bacon launched his screen and stage career\, and before Michael Bacon became one of the top composers for TV and film\, Kevin and Michael were just two brothers who liked to play music. In 1995\, a childhood friend approached them about doing a one night only gig in their hometown of Philadelphia under the name “The Bacon Brothers.” Since then\, the band released seven studio albums\, appeared on numerous radio\, television\, and web programs\, and toured extensively throughout North America and Europe. The brothers describe their genre as a rockin’ mix of folk\, rock\, soul\, and country. \nDon’t be fooled by their Hollywood credentials because critics agree: the brothers — Michael on vocals\, guitar and cello and Kevin on vocals\, guitar and percussion — along with the rest of the band are legit musicians. They steer away from any hint of glitz and glamour in favor of a grittier rock sound with a touch of Philadelphia soul to create an unforgettable musical sound all their own

They rocked Paste Magazine’s Manhattan studio and its Emerging Music Festival\, and the World Music Institute invited them to perform twice at Brooklyn Bowl\, once for its Masters of African Music Series and later for its Festival Of Mali. SUMMARY:Edwin McCain Live at Reilly Arts Center
DESCRIPTION:Called the “great American romantic” by the New York Times\, Edwin McCain has built an enviable career over the past 20 years by balancing his massive pop success with the year-round touring schedule of a tireless troubadour.  His hit songs\, authentic spirit and surprisingly affable sense of humor keep fans coming back time and time again for nights that feel more like parties with old friends than rock concerts. After recording two of the biggest love songs in the history of pop music and experiencing the success that comes with a television show on Animal Planet (Flipping Ships)\, McCain now performs upwards of 100 shows annually throughout the US as a solo artist\, with his full band or his acoustic trio. \nTicket Link: http://smarturl.it/EMOcalaFL
