DESCRIPTION:Be our guest at the Ocala Art Group’s monthly meeting on Wednesday\, March 13th from 12 noon to 2 pm.  Our meetings are held in the Appleton Museum of Art\, 4333 E. Silver Springs Blvd.\, Ocala\, FL 34470-5001 in the upstairs library.\n  	Being featured this month is Mr. Kyle Novak\, currently the Art Gallery Director at Santa Fe College in Gainesville\, FL.  His lecture will address ideas of plagiarism and appropriation in art.  He will cite examples from art history to tie together ideas that guide a contemporary\, art making practice.\n	Mr. Novak was born in West Palm Beach\, FL in 1986 and graduated from the Memphis College of Art in 2008 with BFA in Studio Art\, receiving the Ted Rust Memorial Grant and the Painting Concentration award during his time at the Memphis College of Art.  He served as the Head Prepator for the David Lusk Gallery in Memphis\, TN from 2009 – 2011. In this position Novak installed large scale works at Art Wynwood and Art Basil events in Miami\, FL.   Novak came to Santa Fe College in 2012 and continues to serve as Director of the Art Gallery.\n	He has exhibited work in numerous group and solo exhibits in West Palm Beach\, FL\, Atlanta\, GA\, Memphis\, TN and Gainesville\, FL. His work portrays a sense of cultural critique and social commentary.\n	The Ocala Art Group welcomes visitors and art enthusiasts to join our group\, where we learn new art techniques and grow in knowledge as artists. We ran our first Dressage Summit in Wellington\, FL in 2011 and the next in Verden\, Germany in 2014. And now its time for the 3rd… in Ocala in March 2019! \nIt is going to be a fantastic event looking at the training of horses and humans from a whole different perspective\, with happy horses and harmony as the goal.

Think of it as a combination of strongman\, Highland Games\, and CrossFit with logs and barrels! This event will take place March 1-2\, 2019. \nThe event location for the Grit Strength Challenge will be the newly restored Fort King National Landmark in Ocala\, Florida\, site of the start of the 2nd Seminole War. This is an entirely outdoor event. \nThis will be a unique competition and is designed so all fitness levels can participate.
