General Dentistry Done Right

SPECIAL TO OCALA STYLE

Walking into Dr. Scott Jackson’s office in the Deerwood II professional complex, the family-like environment is evident by both the friendliness of the staff and the cozy atmosphere.

Adorned in jeweled shades of gold and burgundy, the waiting area feels more like a comfortable living room than your typical doctor’s office. The faux finish on the walls adds a rich ambiance to the space. The view from the picture windows features beautiful, blooming Hibiscus plants.

In practice in Ocala since 1998, Dr. Jackson knew from the age of 13 that dentistry was his calling. Today, he treats individuals ranging in age from seven to 99.

“I had a cousin in Italy who was a dentist, and it always interested me,” Scott recalls. “I find dentistry to be very rewarding and challenging.”

Any dentist will acknowledge that staying ahead of the technological curve is probably one of the most challenging aspects of dentistry. Fortunately, Dr. Jackson’s office is on the cutting edge when it comes to dental technology.

AS A PATIENT, visiting the dentist can often be a stressful experience. At Dr. Jackson’s office, the staff goes above and beyond to help patients feel relaxed and comfortable. Each exam room is equipped with Intra-oral cameras, making it simple for the hygienist or doctor to show a patient a trouble spot. The image appears on a monitor and allows the patient to see what is happening inside his or her mouth. Each room also features high-tech computer screens that allow the doctor to easily access patients’ records and x-ray images, all with the touch of a button.

“Anyone I know who is afraid of going to the dentist, I refer them to Dr. Jackson’s office,” says patient Fr. Mark Niznik. “He is kind, honest, calm, and gentle. He always goes out of his way to make people feel comfortable, including me.”

Dr. Jackson’s wife, Valorie, a hygienist at the office, says she enjoys knowing that their patients are getting top-notch, quality care.

“The computerized system makes it very easy to refer patients to specialists as well as to hold consultations with fellow doctors,” Dr. Jackson says.

For patients who are in need of a porcelain crown or onlay, they have the added convenience of getting the whole procedure done in one easy office visit. With the CEREC machine, Dr. Jackson is able to input patient-specific information and the crown is created immediately — onsite.

“I couldn’t believe how Dr. Jackson was able to make my crown in about two hours,” says patient John Auerbach. “The results were amazing, and I was able to go on vacation the next day without having to worry about coming back in. The technology that was used was incredible.”

And established patients can rest assured Dr. Jackson is always just a phone call away. A 24-hour emergency line is available should a dental emergency take place.

Dr. Jackson’s office offers a wide variety of patient services including porcelain veneers, onlays, crowns, and fixed bridges, gold crowns, root canal therapy, partial dentures, dental implant restorations, cleanings and upkeep, and extractions. The office also uses white composite fillings, a more aesthetically pleasing option than the silver fillings often used by dentists. In addition, Dr. Jackson’s office offers patients who wish to whiten their smile with the Zoom! in-office whitening system. For those wishing to whiten their teeth at home, a take-home whitening system is also available.

“We also offer cosmetic dentistry procedures for those individuals who wish to improve their smile,” Dr. Jackson says.

“Being that I am in the entertainment business, my smile is important to me,” says patient Norman Lee. “Dr. Jackson has given me the confidence to go out and perform with confidence.”

DR. JACKSON’S 12-member staff includes not only his wife, but also his mother, Louise, making this a true family business. Louise is responsible for confirming appointments and sterilizing equipment.

“Much of the staff, including my four hygienists, has been with me since I bought the practice in 1998,” Dr. Jackson says. “We’re a very close-knit office and we work well together.”

Also on staff is Dr. Jackson’s associate and fellow dentist Shane Goslinga, DMD. Born and raised in Gainesville, Dr. Goslinga, like Dr. Jackson, attended the University of Florida.

Together, the two doctors are proud of their long-time connections to Central Florida and are enthusiastic about providing the most up-to-date equipment and technology in their field of general and cosmetic dentistry.

As a source of continuing education, Dr. Jackson maintains membership in many professional organizations. He is a past president of the Marion County Dental Society, a fellow with the American Academy of General Dentistry, and a member of both the Florida Dental Association and the American Dental Association. He was also a member of the U.S. Navy and served in Operation Desert Storm.

Dr. Jackson and his wife met while serving in the military. Both had family connections in Marion County which brought them to the area. Together they have three girls ranging in age from 12 to 20.

Even though his dental practice keeps his schedule full, Dr. Jackson makes it a point to spend quality time with his family, as well as his favorite hobby — music.

The doctor is a talented guitarist and banjo player and is a member of Ocala’s own 3D (as in three dentists).

“Many around town know us for our music,” Dr. Jackson says of his bandmates Dr. Bill Clark and Dr. Andy Cohen. Together the trio plays a variety of acoustic music from the ’60s and ’70s including favorites by James Taylor, Jim Croce, and Simon and Garfunkel. The 3D’s often play on Ocala’s downtown square and at the Ritz. They recently performed at Golden Ocala.

Whether he is out and about playing with his band or performing a delicate dental procedure, Dr. Jackson always enjoys what he does and operates at his highest level. And that’s his guarantee to you — his patients.
