Munroe Regional Medical Center is an exceptional hospital, and Joan Pletcher has long been its advocate in the community.A highly successful business woman, Joan is closely involved in the fundraising arm of the center, the Munroe Foundation, as a prominent board member.

The Munroe Foundation would be hard-pressed to find a better ambassador than Joan.A well-respected real estate broker in Ocala—her business, Joan Pletcher, Realtor, specializes in selling some of the area’s largest and most beautiful properties, including estates, farms, training centers, and land—she’s been in the business of promoting Ocala and its many amenities for the past 13 years.
“Real estate is my passion,” says Joan, who began working in property development with her father many years ago. “It’s about my customers—their needs, their interests, their desires, what’s best for their families, or in the case of equine properties, what’s also best for their horses.”
Founded in 1986, the Munroe foundation serves to procure donations from charitable individuals and businesses to support the non-profit hospital’s programs and to purchase necessary equipment.Joan has served on the board for the past 3 years.
“Munroe Regional is the only community hospital in the United States to be named one of the top-100 hospitals for cardiovascular care for nine consecutive years, and it is the only obstetrics facility in Marion County,” Joan says. “This multi-faceted medical facility is so vital to our community.”
Personally and professionally, the prominent Ocalan can’t imagine living anywhere else.
“Ocala is the perfect place for my husband, JJ, and I since our family is in the Thoroughbred horse business,” she explains. “JJ has the Payton Training Center and Todd, our son, is a trainer at various tracks across the country. Ocala is where we want to be, with the warm and friendly people who live here. When I present the Ocala area to people considering moving here, that friendly atmosphere is immediately apparent to them.”
Now she has one more very important amenity to boast about: the award-winning MRMC.“It is a true joy,” she says, “to be able to know and say that Munroe Regional Medical Center is such a high-caliber and diverse medical facility for the citizens of Ocala and the surrounding areas.”
