Shear Madness

Career longevity among service employees is a real coup for business owners like Norma Carlini. In an industry where employees are known to change jobs frequently, Norma considers her long-term staff at Shear Madness to be her best business asset.

“All of our stylists are very experienced, many with 20 or 30 years of hair styling experience,” she says. “They also are long-term employees with Shear Madness, several of whom have been here since the business opened.”

Shear Madness is located in The Villages’ original shopping center — La Plaza Grande — on Highway 441. It is now independently owned and operated by Norma, who began as a stylist there more than 12 years ago.

Most women will tell you that one of the hardest things about moving to a new area is finding a hair stylist. It can be an agonizing decision to put yourself into the hands of someone you don’t know. With the qualified team of 20 stylists and four receptionists who have worked together for many years, Shear Madness has a marked advantage in helping new clients find the right person.

“Our receptionists and stylists know the kinds of questions to ask when someone calls to make an appointment for the first time,” explains Norma. “The receptionist who answers the phone knows each stylist’s strengths and special abilities with every hair type. The client can be confident that he or she has been matched with the appropriate stylist.”

Those great communication skills extend to the stylists themselves, who focus only on hair, whether it’s styling, coloring, hair cutting, or texture services.

“We concentrate on ‘just hair’,” Norma says. “We keep up with the new colors and techniques with an emphasis on continuing education through hair shows and hands-on workshops.”

The salon uses the very best in professional hair care products including Paul Mitchell, Redken, and Goldwell. A wide variety of these products are available so that a client can maintain her hair at home, also.

Norma believes her team of stylists has created a fun environment at Shear Madness. “We have fun-loving people here who complement each other,” she says with a smile. “They are not only great to work with, but they also make it fun for our customers.”
