Bogies Can’t Be Beat

Lila O’Rourke has a favorite hangout, and luckily for her, it’s just down the road from her house.

“I’m here every day,” she says, sitting inside Bogies Restaurant and Bar in Summerfield. “I love it. The food is fabulous, and they have music. Plus, I don’t have to go out on 441!”

Lila already knows what other locals are quickly discovering: Bogies at the Spruce Creek South Country Club is a gem of a dining find. The restaurant serves delicious fare from its extensive lunch and dinner menus.

Naturally, Lila has her favorites.

“The ribs and the fish are delicious,” she says. “Chicken parmesan, that’ll do it. And the soups! Every day they have different soups, and they’re all good.”

“She has more fun than anyone here,” General Manager Graham Pyles says with a chuckle.

Watching customers enjoy Bogies’ food and atmosphere keeps Pyles, Chef Andrew Risteter, and the wait staff striving to exceed expectations. Overlooking Spruce Creek South’s ninth hole with a peaceful view of the landmark fountain on-site, the restaurant is frequented by golfers just off the greens, homeowners from the Spruce Creek community, and patrons from all over the area looking for a juicy burger at lunchtime or a succulent seafood dish in the evening.

“We do great burgers,” Pyles says. “It’s a nine-ounce burger and we can prepare it any way—Mushroom Swiss, Black and Bleu with melted bleu cheese crumbles. For dinner, we have certified, premium-aged beef from Harris Ranch Beef Company. We also do twin six-ounce lobster tails any night of the week.”

Bogies even offers the tasty walleyed pike.

“We’re really the only restaurant that does it down here, and it’s a popular item for people from the North and Midwest,” Pyles says. “It’s one of our biggest sellers at night.”

Another big hit in the evening is Bogies’ live entertainment. Wednesday through Saturday, popular local singers and bands perform while patrons dance and enjoy the restaurant’s full bar.

“My favorite’s going to be here tomorrow night—Johnny Lobo,” Lila says. “He does Jimmy Buffett-type music. He’s wonderful.”

So what’s the secret ingredient in Bogies’ recipe for success? Pyles says there’s no mystery at all. His team delivers delicious food, along with “beautiful views, good entertainment, and excellent service.”

No wonder Lila keeps coming back.
