A Crowning Achievement

Crown Glass Company proves there are endless Possibilities when working with this timeless material.

Opening the door to the light, airy showroom at Crown Glass Company, customers are greeted by Shinu, the lovable Shiba Inu dog that frequents the establishment. As if on cue, she rolls over, waiting for a belly rub. You immediately get the feeling of being in a friendly, family-owned business.

Crown Glass is very diverse, providing glass for everyone’s needs. Whether it’s Grandma’s compact mirror, a new aluminum storefront or repair, stained glass panels or supplies, custom table tops, custom shower enclosures, and more. We do it all.

Foggy windows, scratch removal, replacement glass, one-of-a-kind glass décor–this store isn’t just for windows. From countertops and bath enclosures to lighting enhancements and signage, there’s no limit to what can be done with glass.

“Most people who come into the showroom are surprised by what they see,” says Rose Pickett, Co-owner. “Our products and ideas are a must-see for designers and homeowners. They’re for somebody who wants something distinguished and unique. We have a real passion for glass and stay on the cutting edge.”

The professionals at Crown Glass are very involved with their clients, assisting with all custom-made creations. From a design consultation to the final installation, Rose, her husband John and their staff are personally involved to make each customer’s experience a pleasant one.

“There’s so much you can do with glass–it can completely change the look of a piece of furniture, an entryway, or whatever else you can think up,” Rose says. “A client can use glass to make the environment more expressive, more meaningful.”

One of the newest decorating and architectural tools used in homes is glass. UltraGlas is kiln-formed embossed glass that is not only decorative but also extremely durable and functional. Available in many standard textures, designs, patterns, sizes, and colors, UltraGlas can be used both inside and out. The Picketts are proud to say that Crown Glass Company is the only business north of Tampa that carries UltraGlas.

“It’s just something you have to see and touch to truly appreciate,” Rose emphasizes.
UltraGlas can enhance any style or motif. It provides privacy through textural diffusion, and UltraGlas meets or exceeds safety codes for glass. Whether used for a subtle nuance or a bold statement, the right touch of UltraGlas can bring practical elegance and interest to any space.

Customers can browse through the open showroom to find other ideas for glass use as well. Stained glass, decorative window panels, sun catchers, and mosaics are personally made and available.

“Each piece I make is different and unique, truly one-of-a-kind,” Rose says. “My work expresses a visual dialog of each client’s individual taste.”

Crown Glass can help clients spruce up their old windows or mirrors by adding decorative beveled edges or etchings. They also offer custom engraving and fired on color for tabletops.
In addition to the new and exciting products available at Crown Glass, the company also offers many specialty services for both residences and businesses.

With Florida’s humid climate and the high costs of heating and cooling, most people today opt for insulated windows when building a structure.

“There’s a seal that sits between the two pieces of glass in an insulated window,” John explains. “When the glass loses this seal, condensation forms. In time, the window begins to look dirty and foggy. If the condensation is left long enough, it can actually etch the glass, making this area impossible to clean.”

Crown Glass offers replacement glass to remedy this problem.

“Unlike many other companies, we’ll use the existing window frame,” John says. “We’ll just replace the glass portion of the window, keeping both the price and the hassle down.”

Another common problem that plagues homeowners and contractors is scratches on windows and other glass products. Crown Glass can remove scratches from any type of glass–commercial, residential, auto, or marine–using state-of-the-art machinery, typically saving the owner 50% to 75% compared to replacement.

“We don’t make a mess when we come into your home or business,” John says. “We use a self-contained machine that can be set anywhere inside, even on a coffee table. Unlike the traditional open-wheel polishers, which are messy, our machine contains its compound while it grinds and polishes the scratches out.”

For area businesses, Crown Glass offers a 24-hour board-up service, and are on-site within an hour.

“It’s like peace of mind for your business. If a window breaks, whether because of a break-in or inclement weather, Crown Glass will come out and properly board it up. If they have the correct size glass available, the glass will be switched out right then. “

Crown glass also carries a complete line of commercial door and window hardware, including pivots, hinges, door closures, handles, and more.

“People going in and out of businesses causes great wear and tear on the doors,” John explains.
“We replace those products that wear out for local convenience stores, restaurants, malls and other businesses.”

Regardless of the service or product, Crown Glass provides free, no-hassle estimates. Knowing that customers appreciate this kind of personal service compelled John to continue with the glass business after high school.

“Customers continually tell us they appreciate our fast and professional service,” John says. “Most companies have declared it uneconomical, but we call it common courtesy. This has made us the ‘most preferred and referred’ glass company.

“At the end of the day,” John says, “I know I’ve done what’s right and that our customers are happy and satisfied. It’s good to help people in our community and have them appreciate our work.”
Rose adds, “We work hard to ensure quality up front so we don’t have to apologize for lack of it later.”

This is John’s 18th year in the business. He began his career in western Michigan. After making the move to central Florida 10 years ago, the couple chose to continue with their business locally, knowing that they could provide a valuable service to the public. Crown Glass is located on Airport Road, across from the new post office. They are a member of the Ocala Chamber of Commerce and Ocala Business Leaders as well.
