Set aside the fact that Ocala is “The Horse Capital of the World,” we also have a strong business climate, affordable lifestyle, a diversity of activities and community locations, and it’s a great place to raise a family.
What are potential home buyers interested in right now? Style? Size?
Buyers are looking for location and price within that location. Style and size do play a role in the decision making obviously, but location will always dictate where they buy.
What’s your philosophy on buying and selling homes?
Buy low and sell high! Some sellers think Realtors find the right buyer for their home; buyers think we find the home to buy, and this is where our value lies. Not true. I know the true value lies in advice on the proper way to stage a home, market it, and most importantly, negotiate all the details of the purchase and sale agreement and then keep that agreement together through closing.
What advice would you give to someone interested in buying or selling in this market?
Buyers, this is a great time to buy, however, don’t overextend. The thought of buying all the home you can afford might sound nice, but purchasing the maximum mortgage can have a disastrous outcome. What happens if you or your partner loses a job or becomes ill? You could find yourself where millions of Americans have over the last few years—in foreclosure. The seller will need to be patient, realistic, and a little bit of luck never hurts!
What are some of the most common home features people fail to consider when looking at a home?
The home’s energy efficiency. Buyers are becoming more and more aware of the “Go Green” push. It’s all about saving that almighty dollar.
What sets you apart from other real estate agents?
I don’t know if this sets me apart from other agents but I do believe a man or woman is only as good as their word. I could do business like my father taught me—with a hand shake!
What do you enjoy most about your career?
I really enjoy working with people and helping them with what is usually one of their largest investments of their lives. I enjoy assisting with and negotiating the deal to get them the best price and terms possible.
What’s your outlook for the rest of the year’s real estate market?
I’m an optimist by nature, and I feel that as long as Florida in general can create and keep jobs and our interest rates stay low, our real estate market should continue to improve.
