First-Rate Dental Care, Strong Central Florida Connections

SPECIAL TO OCALA STYLE

A friendly and professional atmosphere and the strong commitment to his patients have made the office of Dr. Scott Jackson, DMD, a busy spot in Ocala. Thanks to an ever-increasing clientele, Dr. Jackson has moved into a new, larger facility and has added an associate dentist to the roster, making it even more convenient for patients seeking the most advanced dental care.

Born and raised in Hialeah, Dr. Jackson discovered his career goals at a relatively young age.

“I was 12 when my family went to Italy and stayed with my cousin for the summer,” he says. “He’s a dentist and works out of his house. I got to see what he did firsthand and that’s when I decided that I wanted to be a dentist.”

Dr. Jackson completed his dental studies degree at the University of Florida. After graduation, he served with the U.S. Navy during Desert Storm in 1991 and was stationed in Jacksonville. Following his military service, he worked as an associate dentist in Jacksonville for several years before moving to Ocala and opening his own general dentistry practice in 1997.

Over the past eight years, Dr. Jackson’s business has expanded to the point of needing another full-time dentist on staff. Associate dentist Shane Goslinga, DMD, also a graduate of the University of Florida, recently joined Dr. Jackson’s team. The need for a larger facility lead the partners to build in the new Deerfield II professional complex located just off 17th Street and within a mile of their former office. The new office recently opened in January.

Friendly and family-oriented, the office is staffed by a professional team dedicated to making things run smoothly and efficiently. Dr. Jackson’s mother, Louise, is one of the staff members who sets up appointments, and his wife, Valorie, works as one of the hygienists, making this a true family affair.

In addition to the family atmosphere, clients will appreciate the comfortable and spacious surroundings and classy décor. Soothing earth tones, warm terra cotta-colored walls, and thickly padded chairs make for a gracious waiting area.

In each patient room, computers make it easy for examination findings to be immediately recorded for efficient record keeping. The doctors have made it a point to incorporate the most modern technology in their practice — and it shows.

And both doctors also know the importance of keeping themselves abreast of the latest dental developments as well, attending continuing education classes on a regular basis.

Whether you’re eager to improve your appearance with cosmetic dental procedures, or simply want to establish a relationship with a general dentist to maintain your dental health, Dr. Jackson’s office is equipped to handle all of your dental needs. From routine cleaning and exams to extractions, root canals, crowns and whitening, patients find they can rely on one office for all of the dental procedures they need. With four hygienists on staff, it’s convenient to make family appointments so multiple people can have their teeth cleaned at the same time.

“We use the best, most up-to-date materials for all our procedures and the latest technology, such as the Cerec machine, Zoom whitening, and a digital x-ray machine,” explains Dr. Goslinga.

Patients appreciate the fact that the new technology of digital radiographs has 90 percent less radiation exposure than traditional x-rays. The digital technology offers other benefits as well, including the ability to email x-rays to another dentist or doctor immediately.

Another dental development, The Cerec machine enables a crown to be made right in the office in just one visit, eliminating the need for multiple appointments. Dr. Jackson’s office also handles conventional crowns.

“Not a lot of offices have this in Ocala and it saves our patients valuable time,” notes Dr. Goslinga.

“Our cosmetic dentistry procedures include the latest technology, such as the Zoom whitening as seen on Extreme Makeover,” adds Dr. Jackson. “In just one hour, you can walk out with a whiter smile. People love this because it offers immediate results, and they also get a whitening tray to take with them so they can do touchups at home.”

In recent years, porcelain veneers have been gaining popularity as a way to quickly achieve a beautiful smile by making the teeth appear wider and straighter. Whatever procedure is needed, helping patients improve their smile is one of the most gratifying things about his career, says Dr. Jackson.

“I truly enjoy helping people feel more confident about themselves by improving their appearance,” he notes. “It’s also rewarding to help people maintain their dental health and to relieve any pain they may be experiencing.”

Dr. Jackson and his wife, Valorie, have three daughters, but despite his busy schedule with work and family activities, he manages to carve some time out for his hobby of music.

“A lot of people in town know us for our music,” says Dr. Jackson, who, along with two other dentists, Dr. Bill Clark and Dr. Andy Cohen, form the band The 3-Ds (as in “three dentists”). The group plays acoustic guitar music from the sixties and seventies, such as James Taylor, Jim Croce, and Simon and Garfunkel. The 3-Ds often play at The Wine Experience and The Ritz, as well as on Ocala’s downtown square and for private engagements.

“Our ad says, ‘Songs from yesterday and today,’” laughs Dr. Jackson, “but that’s not technically right because we don’t sing a lot of today’s songs, more of yesterday’s!”

Born and raised in Gainesville, Dr. Goslinga is a major Gator football fan and also finds time to enjoy hunting and fishing.

Together, Dr. Jackson and Dr. Goslinga are two Florida natives are proud of their long-time connections to central Florida and are enthusiastic about providing the most up-to-date equipment and technology in their field of general and cosmetic dentistry.
