From Mild To Wild

The professionals at Urban Chic can help you with all your wardrobe and beauty needs. Whether you’re interested in finding a gift, or looking for that perfect fitting pair of jeans, owner Stacy Richardson reveals what makes her hair gallery and boutique so special.

Stacy Richardson, owner of Urban Chic.

How would you describe the feeling you’re trying to convey in your salon?

The goal in creating Urban Chic was to bring cutting edge styles in hair, makeup, clothing, and accessories to one place. I’ve always felt if you want the best styles, you drive to the closest big city. Urban Chic brings the city to you. We’ve created a 3,000-square-foot hair gallery and boutique where you can come in for a quick haircut, or spend some time and have a complete makeover.

When people walk in, what’s their reaction to the city décor?

Some people walk by the window and peek in, thinking we are two separate stores because they see our to-scale phone booth styling stations. But once they walk through the doors, their faces light up in amusement with the realization that the U.S. Mailboxes, phone booths, and 10-foot chain link fence are all a unique part of our décor.

What types of services are offered at Urban Chic?

We offer everything from haircuts and highlights, to conditioning treatments, waxing, hair extensions, eyelash extensions, and makeup. We are equipped to handle all your beauty and styling needs. Consultations are always free and we encourage you to stop by and visit with one of our stylists. We know the importance of feeling comfortable with your stylist and this is the perfect opportunity to create a clear picture of your goals.

Need a makeover or just a haircut?  The salon offers a full range of services.

What types of items can be found in the Urban Chic boutique?

Everything from men’s and women’s clothing to sunglasses, belts, jewelry, and accessories. We’ve traveled the United States to bring you the hottest brands around such as Ed Hardy, SMET, Affliction, Sinful, Soul Revival, Blue Tattoo, Silver, and Miss Me, to name a few. The stuff we have here is what you see on television. We have things from $10 and up. You can’t get [the] clothing we have unless you go to Orlando or Gainesville.

What sets your salon apart from the others?

Knowledge, attitude, and atmosphere. It’s like nothing you have ever experienced. Everyone on our staff loves what they do and are dedicated to their clients. There is a fun-loving spirit in the air and the energy is always upbeat. We pride ourselves on providing outstanding customer service, as well as creating a fun, one-of-a-kind experience for our customers and friends to enjoy. At Urban Chic you can shop around for great clothes and accessories while enjoying our professional hair services.

Talk about the caliber of your stylists.

They have a passion for what they do and they care about making their customer happy. It’s just as important to our stylist as it is to their client that they [client] look and feel beautiful. All of our stylists are Redken-trained professionals. They know their products thoroughly and have had additional training that puts them a step above other stylists.

Do you cater to a younger crowd?

We’re located just outside The Villages, but there are a large number of young families here. Urban Chic is a place where they can go, enjoy themselves, and not get the “typical” hair cut experience. Our original goal was to cater to the younger crowd, but you’d be surprised how many seniors and older women are very much in style and want to stay young and trendy. They love it here.
