Healthcare With A Heart

Formerly known as the Heart Institute, the Alliance Heart Institute has been in our region for more than 16 years. Initially providing cardiac diagnostic services, the advent of open heart surgery has allowed for the expansion of the Heart Institute services to include both diagnostic and interventional procedures. For the last several years, the Alliance Heart Institute has been ranked number one for the highest volume of open heart surgeries, more than 7,500 since 1998. Experience and exceptional outcomes are the byproducts of high volumes when it comes to surgical expertise and quality care.

The success comes from the multi-disciplinary team comprised of more than 50 cardiologists, cardiovascular thoracic surgeons, and cardiovascular anesthesiologists, widely recognized as some of the most successful and experienced in the nation.

“The combination of great care and caring has attracted a growing number of patients who want the best and are willing to travel to find it,” says Lee Huntley, president and CEO of Central Florida Health Alliance. “Alliance Heart Institute combines state-of-the-art technology with experienced physicians and staff members who truly care. When it comes to heart surgery, you want to choose a surgeon and a hospital that have the most experience. We have just that.”

The numbers speak for themselves. Since its inception in 1992, the Alliance has performed more than 56,000 cardiac catheterizations; 18,000 angioplasties and stent placements; and 6,000 peripheral procedures; and has inserted more than 3,000 high-tech pacemakers to keep hearts in a healthy rhythm.

The Alliance Heart Institute team is continually hailed for its exceptional track record, but patient satisfaction remains a key factor when considering excellence in care.

“While the numbers are impressive,” says Huntley, “we are equally as proud of the fact that our patient satisfaction rating in 2007 was 99 percent, significantly above the national average.”

World-Class Professionals

The outstanding outcomes at the Alliance Heart Institute are due primarily to the cooperation of clinical professionals working together as a multi-disciplined team.

“Behind the scenes,” says R. Duane Cook, M.D., chief of cardiovascular/thoracic surgery at Leesburg Regional Medical Center, “there are dozens of people who make our heart surgeries successful.”

Groundbreaking Procedures

Alliance Heart Institute at Leesburg Regional Medical Center has pioneered a number of ground-breaking procedures, generally used only in specialty health centers such as the Cleveland Clinic.

• Minimally Invasive Vein Harvesting—The world-class team at the Alliance Heart Institute has performed thousands of endoscopic vein-harvesting procedures that involve removing a leg vein and using it as a replacement vessel for the heart. Surgeons gain superb results by making a two-inch incision as opposed to the more commonly practiced procedure of cutting the leg from the ankle to the groin. Patients appreciate the new endoscopic method used to achieve the same excellent results but with less discomfort.

• Minimally Invasive Heart Valve Repair Or Replacement—For patients who need open heart surgery, the Alliance Heart Institute is the only facility in the region, and one of the few in Florida, performing an alternative to the conventional method. Led by cardiovascular surgeon Tim Moore, M.D., the Alliance now offers minimally invasive heart valve repair or replacement surgery.

Closer To Home,
Closer To Recovery

Home is not only where the heart is, but it is also often the most conducive place for a speedier recovery. Patients from across Florida are finding comfort in staying close to home after undergoing a cardiovascular procedure. The convenience offered by the Alliance Heart Institute for families that do not have to relocate for days or weeks at a time is unparalleled.

When considering the choices for cardiovascular care, your heart is in experienced hands at the Alliance Heart Institute. After all, the numbers speak for themselves.
