On March 25, 2004, at a ceremony held at the Hard Rock Café in Orlando, Ocala Style magazine publisher Kathy Johnson was named Publisher of the Year by the Florida Magazine Association. The award is the group’s highest individual honor.
“I can’t describe how rewarding it is to be recognized by my peers for such a prestigious award,” Johnson said. “Florida is a very competitive state for city magazines, producing some of the nation’s finest publications. It’s quite an honor to be selected as the top publisher in the entire state, considering the high caliber of the competition.”
The Florida Magazine Association has represented Florida publications and suppliers for more than four decades. It is the largest state magazine association in the nation, serving more than 236 magazines and 44 suppliers of publishing products and services statewide. The Professionalism awards, which recognize outstanding achievement among member magazines, were the emotional finalé to the FMA’s Spring Workshop.
“I share this award not only with my incredibly talented staff, but with Ocala as a community. It’s a wonderful place to live and work – and to cover in the pages of Ocala Style.”

A Stylish New Home
Kathy Johnson winning Publisher of the Year from the FMA wasn’t our only good news for the month. Anyone reading Ocala Style over the last few years has obviously noticed how much we’ve grown during that time. Our old office location just simply wasn’t cutting it anymore.
We’ve now moved a little closer to the heart of Ocala, just inside the Historic District on Fort King. Our new Mediterranean-inspired office suites were constructed by John Underwood and now house our complete editorial and advertising staffs. You may notice our new sign in the coming weeks. All of our e-mail addresses and phone numbers, however, remain the same; only our physical address is different.
