Once Upon a Time… Dream it. Wish it. Do it.

A Q&A with the Lady Jeweler

Why did you decide to become a jeweler and start your own business? Well, it’s a long story, but I’ll keep it short. I’ve had several careers, from being a commercial fisherman to a pharmacy technician. I was 28 years old, and Walt and I were getting married. He asked me, ‘Why don’t we open a jewelry store?’ I said, ‘OK,’ and that’s how the dream  began back in 1990.

Where did you get your training and knowledge? My goal was to become a Graduate Gemologist and Bench Jeweler. I received training as a Graduate Gemologist, Advanced Diamond Setter from the Gemological Institute of America and Bench Jeweler/Goldsmith from Stewarts International School for Jewelers.

What are the biggest changes in the jewelry industry since you started? Technology, from texting clients to computerized matrix designs now with 3D printed models.  Clients can see, touch and try on their custom piece before it’s made.

Who do you think the Lady Jeweler customer is? They are everyday women doing everyday things. They want jewelry that they can wear with that little black dress or blue jeans. They want a jeweler they can trust, with the latest styles and quality at fair prices.

What makes the Lady Jeweler different than any other local jewelry store? I wanted my store to not just be a jewelry store but a jewelry boutique. It has a more relaxing atmosphere. We want clients to stay awhile and get to know us and what we do! I love, when a new customer comes in and says, ‘Oh my, what a beautiful store!’

What’s the advantage of being a Lady Bench Jeweler? Women feel like I understand their ideas and restyle needs better because I’m a lady jeweler. It’s the little things we do every day. We go the extra mile to make each piece just right!

Why do you think your business has been  so successful? By taking care of our customers and their jewelry, they are our number one priority. Having a friendly and knowledgeable staff who love what they do. Keeping up with the latest trends and advancements in the industry. Being invlolved and giving back to our community. And our location—Lady Jeweler has been located in the heart of downtown Ocala since 1990.

What’s your favorite personal piece of jewelry? My bridal rings, even though I have upgraded (bigger diamond) and redesigned it a few times over the years. When I put them on, I know how blessed I am to have found my best friend and partner for life, Walt.

What is the Lady Jeweler’s specialty? The Lady Jeweler specializes in ‘Will You Marry Me?’ diamonds of all shapes and sizes. We do make dreams come true.
