Parade of Homes Section: Unfloat Your Boat

The Cavender family believes in keeping things simple. The philosophy behind RJ’s Marine Sales, the family business since 1985, is to stick with what you do well and offer it at a great price. That motto has worked well for them.

“Our mission statement has always been to offer quality products for the price we quote at the time we promised,” says Pam Cavender.

It’s that stellar service that makes RJ’s Marine Sales the place to go when you’re in need of a variety of boating services and products including boat cradles, hoists, jet ski lifts, and more.

Dick and Pam Cavender (shown above) know a boat or personal watercraft is a large investment. That’s why they go above and beyond to make sure each client receives the best possible solution for their boating needs.

As a family the Cavenders enjoy being outdoors and on the water. As a matter of fact, Dick and Pam’s two sons, Michael and Rick, are both in the marine industry. Michael builds boathouses and owns Premiere Lakefront and Rick designs custom boat canvas at Custom Dockside Canvas—both in Clermont.

“Being in the boating business as long as we have gives us the opportunity to become familiar with many products,” Pam says. “We choose our products based on not only quality and craftsmanship, but also the manufacturer’s longevity, warranties offered, and maintenance records.”

That being said, RJ’s Marine Sales is an authorized dealer of ShoreStation lifts and docks. The company offers aluminum freestanding hoists and docks for boats and personal watercraft between 800 and 7,000 pounds.

Another standout name in the boating industry is EZ Dock. A good choice for water levels that vary, the EZ Dock floats on the water’s surface, rising and falling with the tides and seasons.

“Just like the ShoreStation lifts and docks, EZ Docks are portable. They can be moved not only in the water to create a variety of layouts, but also from house to house and state to state,” Pam says. “It’s one of the most stable docks on the market today.”

The EZ Dock system is a simple, low-maintenance design that’s versatile, safe, and very sturdy. It’s also environmentally friendly and UV stable. EZ Dock also offers EZ Port, a floating, drive-up jet-ski lift. Pam calls it the “Cadillac” of personal watercraft lifts.

Also in stock is Boat Hoist USA products. For boat owners with a boat house, the most common type of lift system used is the cradle lift. With the cradle lift, the boat is completely out of the water. This protects your boat’s well-being and lessens maintenance issues.”

But no matter what your need, the professionals at RJ’s can make it happen. Situated on five and a half acres in Clermont, RJ’s Marine Sales, Inc., offers potential customers the opportunity to see a variety of lifts and hoists up close and personal, making the decision-making process a bit easier.

“We have a wonderful display area,” Pam says. “A floating dock, a boat house with a cradle lift, the ShoreStation freestanding lift, a personal watercraft lift, and a freestanding dock are all showcased.”

In business since 1985, the Cavender family has installed, maintained, and repaired literally thousands of lifts and docks—including those installed by other companies. That adds up to plenty of satisfied customers.

Gary and Petra Whipple are two of those customers. The Whipples live on the Clermont Chain of Lakes and enjoy spending time on the water. When water levels dropped too low for their boat lift to work properly, they called the original company that installed the lift. After receiving no help from them, Gary called RJ’s Marine Sales.

“I called Pam and Dick to fix my lift problem and they were here within an hour to inspect the problem,” Gary says. “That was on a Friday. Monday morning they came and fixed my lift in just two hours. I couldn’t have asked for better, more professional service. The work was superior, and Dick and Pam did exactly as
they promised. I recommend them to anyone who needs any kind of lift or dock work done.”

It’s not just the small, residential jobs that RJ’s Marine Sales specializes in, though. The company recently completed a half-million-dollar dock project at Carney Island Park on Lake Weir.

“We can do any job,” Pam says, “big or small. We are very service-oriented. What we enjoy most is meeting with our clients and giving them a little slice of the good life by
installing or maintaining their boat lift or dock.”
