Quick Bites: New Pizza Bistro Is Tempting Taste Buds

Calling all pizzas lovers! PizzAmoré is now open in Mount Dora. The casual pizza bistro is located at 116 East Fifth Avenue, adjacent to 5th Avenue Café, across from Donnelly Park.

Serving gourmet pizzas, salads, pasta dishes, soft drinks, smoothies, beer, wine, and specialty coffees, the concept of PizzAmoré “reflects what pizza and pasta represent to us—only the freshest ingredients will be used in a welcoming, friendly atmosphere, where we’ll celebrate every day as a special event,” says Head Chef Jesse Thomas. Daily specials are offered, including free kids’ menu meals for children every Wednesday from 5-8pm.

Owner Leigh Love, who also owns 5th Avenue Café, says, “Since just about everyone loves pizza, we wanted to create a fun place where the whole family can be comfortable and enjoy great tasting food without spending a fortune.”

PizzAmoré is open Tuesdays from 11:30am-3:30pm, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays from 11:30am-8pm, and on Fridays and Saturdays from 11:30am-9pm. Choose between dine-in, take-out, or catering. (352) 383-0092.

Dee Dee’s Dog House, located by Target on US 441 in The Villages, has closed its doors and is being remodeled to copy Ocala’s SKY Asian Fusion. It will be a scaled down version but will serve the same wok and sautéed dishes, noodle bowls, and daily fish specials. The owners originally were going to name this new restaurant SKY Xiao, which means Little Sky, but Chef Tony Trinidad in Ocala says, “We thought it would be too confusing to pronounce so we’re looking at something like SKY in The Villages.”

Leigh Gallups, who has been with Ocala’s SKY since its opening and has been in training under the direction of Chef Trinidad, will be managing The Villages restaurant. Marlene Gregg, whose award-winning interior design has mesmerized many, will be the designer. Look for an opening at the end of this month or early next month. Although The Villages location is not mentioned on it as of this writing, visit www.ocalasky.com to get an idea of what to look for when the restaurant opens. The phone number will be (352) 751-5300.

Another change is happening in Tavares. Nate’s River Deck (the old Dead River Vic’s) is under new management. It’s located just off US 441 in the large pink building and overlooks the Dead River. The Dead River serves as the division between the cities of Tavares and Leesburg. It received its name due to the lack of a current, and connects Lake Eustis to Lake Harris.

Owner Natale (Nate) Rotondi is now serving Italian and seafood meals on the deck
as well as inside. Nate’s River Deck features a full bar and you can arrive by boat or car. See the menu and more at www.natesriverdeck.com, or call (352) 742-5000.

Nibbles: Kelly Fairchild, the director of food and beverage for The Waterfront Inn at Lake Sumter Landing in The Villages, invites everyone to come out and see their latest menu. “I believe we are the best-kept secret over here,” she says. “A lot of people don’t know we’re open to the public.” Enjoy a full meal in Amelia’s dining room or something casual in the bar area. Both offer a gorgeous view of the lake. Visit their Web site at www.waterfrontinnvillages.com.
