Man’s Best Friend – Rick Schmidt and Abby

We love our furry family members, and we bet you do, too. In honor of our annual men’s issue, we invited a few local guys to introduce us to their favorite four-legged friends.

Rick Schmidt and Abby

Please tell us the story of how you and your dog met, or how he/she became part of your family.

I discovered Abby at the Humane Society shelter. I wasn’t necessarily looking for a dog like her, but I immediately fell in love with her. I asked my wife Elaine to go visit her as well, and she adopted her on the spot.

Do you and your dog have a favorite activity you enjoy doing together?

Abby loves to go on rides and trips and really enjoys it when I take her to work with me. Beyond that, her favorite activity is snuggling.

Please share a brief story or example of why your dog is truly “Man’s Best Friend.”

Abby is fiercely loyal, fantastic around children, and I can’t remember there ever being a time that I’ve had to scold her for anything. She’s the most well-behaved dog I’ve ever had, and she’s a real sweetheart.
