With COVID-19 social distancing in effect, you may have an increased sense of boredom and aloneness. Fear not! Below are some very social activities that can be done while each person is in the comfort of their own home!
Digital Dinner Party
Some of the best times are had sitting around and eating some food with friends. Get a group of friends to participate and have everyone either make the same meal or order from the same restaurant. We recommend ordering from a local restaurant. Help the community and get yummy food, it’s a win-win! Pull up a video chat option like Skype or Google Hangouts and have a digital dinner party! Eat your food together and chat the night away!
Video Games
Video games may have a bad reputation at times, but right now they can be a great source of community and a way to be social and combat boredom at the same time. The best part is there are options for gamers and non-gamers alike!
Jackbox Games has numerous multi-player options and the best part is that only one person has to have a game pack. The rest are given a code to join the game and play. The game packs are also available on over 10 platforms including Apple and Android. So, get some friends on a group call or video chat and get playing!
Don’t like playing? Try watching! Websites and apps like Twitch and Mixer are ways you can watch individuals play games, chat with them, and chat with thousands of others watching as well. If you don’t want to watch a game, there are many podcasts and people in the “Just Chatting” or “Talk Show” categories that allow for a great community experience.
Phone/Video Chat Book Club
Mix traditional with technology—try starting a phone/video chat book club! Pick a book amongst your friends, choose a section to read and then get on a group call or video chat to talk about it. Repeat these steps until the book is finished. Check out our most recent Facebook or Instagram post, for some great book recommendations from the community!
Watch TV or a Movie Digitally with Friends
Services like Kast, Netflix Party, and Metastream allow people to watch TV shows, movies and videos together, while in different places. Make some popcorn, pick something to watch, login and enjoy! Netflix Party is only for Netfilx and only has a text chat available. Both Kast and Metastream support YouTube, Netflix, Hulu and more. They also both offer audio and video chat options while watching.
