June 5 marked the culmination of a year and a half of work to produce Season 3 of the Big Hammock Race Series (BHRS) and the launch of Season 4. The nonprofit group not only connects local runners with an inspiring community of running enthusiasts, but gives them the opportunity to “do good” by granting their race entry fees for each event to a number of charities in our area. Season 3 raised $64,000 for organizations such as PACE Center for Girls, Marion County Children’s Alliance, United Way, Heart of Florida Youth Ranch, Points of Life Blood Bank, Cornerstone School and VOCAL (Voices of Change Animal League). The event also provided race participants, and those with an interest in signing up, a chance to meet the hosts of the races for Season 4. Registration for the upcoming season is now open.
