Help Honor Vietnam Veterans at Memorial Service and Luncheon

The VFW Veterans Village in Ft. McCoy will be honoring Vietnam veterans with a memorial service, entertainment from Dave and Vicky Trezak and a home-cooked barbecue of “pulled pork and all the fixins’”, says Pam Lotman, Assistant Director of the Village. This year’s Veterans Day event takes place, Monday, November 11th, at 10am and is sponsored by Fairbanks Construction, Carpet One Floor & Home, Humana Insurance Company and Roberts of Ocala Funerals & Cremations.

“We’re the best-kept secret in Florida,” says Lotman, referring to the residential complex that offers veterans and their eligible family members a safe, secure and independent living situation. Rental fees cover utilities, housekeeping, and transportation to the VA and other doctor visits. The 42-acre site is set among towering oak trees and tropical palms, offering a peaceful setting. The organization is truly unique—it is owned and operated by the VFW and is not supported by any governmental agencies. It’s the only facility of its kind anywhere in the world.

After the memorial service, guests can chow down on tasty barbecue and enjoy music from the Trezaks. The multi-talented duo will keep toes tapping with tunes from country, rock, Motown, and a selection of oldies. “They’re pretty much the village band for us, “ Lotman says. They play at many of the Veterans Village occasions.

Ticket contributions of $5 are suggested and includes the memorial service, lunch and entertainment. Roberts of Ocala is providing a dessert cake. The village is located at 13005 NE 135th Street in Ft. McCoy.

Putting on the event to honor the service and sacrifices of the armed forces is important to the village, Lotman says. “We’re passionate about our veterans.”
